Simple Ways to Reduce the Costs of Packaging

Do you feel like you’re spending way too much on packaging? Why not save some money? Here are some great ways to save some money and reduce the costs of packaging right now.

Train the Staff

Obviously, if you want to make sure that the costs are low, you’ve got to make sure that the people who are packaging this are trained correctly. They’re important for fulfillment and the supply chain. Without proper training, everything ends up falling apart.  You want to make sure that everything is in place for employees to train correctly, and if it’s not, make sure you have a means to get the materials for them too.

Protect the machinery

If the machinery isn’t working, it’s going to cost some extra money. Just because you have something that’s cheap doesn’t mean it’s a good thing for you to maintain. You must make sure anything that transports the products, lifts this, even tape dispensers, are working correctly.

Make sure that you also perform regular maintenance. If you think about it, if you let the machinery go to waste, it costs more money in repairs and downtime, especially if you don't fix it immediately. It’s important to make sure that you change this so that the packaging gets the rewards that you want from this.

Work on Being Proactive

If you’re not already, please start being proactive with your stuff.

If you notice that the costs are more, and the returns are through the roof, there is a hole in the efficiency of the production team. You want to make sure that you look at the product, along with the processes, when the problems are few and far between. Checking now prevents the problems from getting worse, and you’ll be able to reduce the costs of packaging as well if you so need this.

If you audit the packages before there’s a problem, this reduces the stress and the pressures on this when it’s time to fix this.

Package auditing that happens every 6 months is a good way to check to make sure that all of the methods and procedures are working correctly.

More than a Box

How do you view packaging?

Do you see it as a mere box, with nothing more to it?

That might be what’s causing you to lose money. Packaging isa representation of the brand, and you may want to work on trying to get packaging that’s more than just a boring box.

Look at pelleting, printing things differently, and also putting together other ways to stand out. Your cardboard may work for some products but paperboard and kraft paper may also work well for stuff that’s lighter, so it’s worth considering.

Lower the time for assembling and packaging

This is a big part of it, because you will have to pay labor costs regardless, but if you reduce the time spent on packaging units, you’ll be able to, with this, create a way that’s effective for you to save some money.

This goes into the proper training. When staff are properly trained, they’ll be able to utilize the items in a better manner. This means less wasted materials to seal up your boxes, and less time doing this.  Sometimes, you can even change the packaging so that you don't have to use tape.

There are now die-cut boxes that are glued beforehand, and you just have to lock them.

Lower this, and you’ll be able to save costs, and with the rest of these tips, you can start to come out in the black.
